I should be getting my gulper catfish in the next few days. I'll be putting the gulper in my 75gal. I might get another one later on. I just recenlty read the care on this site about gulper catfish. I was just wondering if anyone had any additional info. When they adult size, do they require large fish to eat? Or are a few silversides enough throughout the week enough along with shripm and nightcrawlers? I know these fish can stuff themselves but I don't want to stuff my fish every feeding. Also, how long have you guys been keeping your gulpers? I hear that they can live a long time. Any other tips would be great. Thanks everyone!

I have 5 gulpers in a 120 gallon tank. I've had them about a year now. I don’t think they get larger than a foot. I feed once a week but not everyone eats. If the gulper is not hungry it won’t come out to eat. I feed market shrimp, massivor pellets, and Tilapia Fillet.
Mine hide during the day and come out at night. I don't even put the lights on the tank anymore. The lights from the room and other tanks is enough to see the Gulpers. I keep the temps at 80 and I have a drip system that changes about 1 gallon of water per hour.
They are cool fish. I recomend getting more than one, at least one is out every night so the tank doesnt get boring. Anything you put in the tank with them that is slightly larger than the Gulper can/will be food. It's really hard to believe how much they can eat.

From my experience only. My two guys didn't eat often they only ate 1 a week and they were good. However they ate a good amount per feeding. I didn't provide shelter and they were out and about all day long unless after each meal they'd sit it out. One advice and tip you should be careful when transfering or netting the fish as they come out of the water they can gulp in too much air given their huge mouth and all. In one particular situation one of my gulps during transfer gulped in some air and he started to float up sidedown for a good 8-10hrs. After carefully massaging out some air he slowly regained composure.he flipped right side up and started going back about his business. Biggest I've seen in person is about 14-15 inches.
