What size tank do they need seriously? I have heard everything from a 180 to a 20 gallon.................................

I've not owned one, but if by Gulper Catfish you mean Asterophysus batrachus, then SL is about 11", so you'd realistically need at least a 4'x2'x2' (100 UK gallons).

I had one in a 20g Long. The tank was filtered with an Emperor 280 and a Marineland 660 Sponge Powerhead.

how long did you have that gulper cat in that 20 gal long

I had it in there for 7 months. I was going to move it, but it died from a fungus infection:cry:

cant help you with the tank Q. I keep mine in a pond.

It didn't really swim much. It did, however, enjoyed the current from the powerhead.

I'm interested in the answer to this as well, I have two 48x12x18 sat in the garden not doing much atm, was thinking of a gulper, some people say they need a much bigger tank than this, others say it would be fine, and even smaller would be fine as they dont move much, and are quite lazy.

They ave very slow growers, you could keep one in a 29 gallong with a good filter and proper powerhead. But eventually youll have to upgrade to a 55-75 gallon tank. But for one gulper a 75 should be about good for life. I have 4 about 5-6" gulpers in a 75 gallon and they have plenty of room. Awsome fish, i love the little guys... tons of personality.
