As the title , my gulper catfish which has been with me for a while now, may be 3 months or more, have started breathing heavy and one of them has turned yellowish pale.

Temp is 26 degrees, nitrates less than 10ppm, pH is 6.6, filtration volume is 700ltr/hr.

Weekly water changes,

Is ur water ph around 6.6? Sometimes ph swings will do this with gulpers often.

Yes 6.6, I get river water from the supply

Oh ok. Any chance of contamination? What are u feeding?
I don't know what would have been a source any contamination, these are fed the same tilapia fillet that is fed to all the fish, this I get from the market and freeze them for a minimum of three days before feeding

Water source for water changes and pH stability are not connected in my head. I must be missing something? Proper KH is responsible for pH stability.

But I'd think the pH swings would cause an appetite loss well before actually affecting the health in more obvious ways. Maybe. IDK.

Three days of freezing would be enough to eradicate parasites if one freezes to extreme temps. There is a length of the time at such and such temperature in this equation.

Of course, filet is poor in everything but protein. I'd probably soak in Viachem.

The hardest thing to ID would be if the gulper(s) caught a pathogen somehow.

The fillet I use is river fish, and I get it filleted with skin and spines. Not big spines, just the small and flexible ones
