Hello All!,

I've been reading on Exodons and they seem like a great add to my 100g(4 Gulpers). I got a comment on the fish tank of not enough color in the tank..:screwy:
Exodons go for fishes with Scales,Shiny etc.
Gulpers are scale less and are from around the same region (South America).

Has anybody tried this? Results? Suggestions?

As the Gulpers are very (v e r y) lazy lol So they only wait till I hand feed them..they rarely go for the Goldfish & others(They act like they are about to eat the Goldfish and then the fish immediately swims away from the Gulpers mouth and the Gulpers get back to just floating in there space lol..

So Im thinking as they havent eating those..Could the exodons get away with being there and only getting eating if it shows aggression towards the gulpers..
What do you think?

Cus of my Gulpers, Im too lazy to check for misspelled words atm lol

No, it wont work. The exodons will kill the gulpers and the gulpers will eat some of the exodons. IME exodons arent really choosy with who they go after

It's a cool idea, I've seen people keep little fish with large black rhom piranhas on YouTube, there so small he dosent even try for them. I could see it working but I would test it out first with some minnows before you spend the money. Do a up date when you do, I would like to see it!

yeah! why not give it a go with some black phantom tetras, just to see how the gulpers respond. If they survive, then look into the school of exodons.

If this works, that would be great news. I've always wanted a gulper, but I'm a little short on room, so another "species tank" isn't really an option: however, if I could combine two awesome fish, then that's a big win.

Please give this a shot, and let us know how it goes.

I wouldn't trust a gulper with anything it could fit in its mouth. Just because they don't eat something after 2 weeks doesn't mean they won't eat it at a later date.

True. I do see a few scales missing near the goldfish's mouth..So that must mean at night when the Goldf is sleeping/floating the Gulper takes a bite but the goldf gets away? idk but still..At least they will be more active? lol to not get bit by exodons and to keep up it is aggressiveness..

Exactly what I was thinking..But I've seen my gulper attacking the other and they can MOVE lol So if exodons quickness can get a bite and get away from the gulper then yea thats a problem but from what I've seen on youtube video's is thats If there is LOTS of exodons..I only want like 3-5 just so my tank dosnt look empty with the gulpers always on the bottom hiding...LOL the Goldf is the only Interactive fish I got hahah wow..

Right? whats up with having only one showpiece fish? When same fishes to us are common and to others its showpiece's..I would think the gulper would want to eat something within the "Can eat 3x its size range"..Im more concerned with the exodons trying to eat my gulpers? Whats minnows? If I knew where to get the Exodons I would have already been in the progress of testing. HAHA

Well, Do the Black Phantoms go crazy like the Exodons when feeding? I really like the all of a sudden there is a ball of fishes eating a shrimp. The shrimp disappears so do the fishes lol..If you check out the youtube videos, You will see that movement of every fish makes it look like a swarm.

If you do want to keep a Gulper, I say try to get a pair if possible. The tank should be black water kinda(Almond leaves,Peat moss, Black water extract), Acidic water and I've been forever been trying to get this tank to be a planted tank. So if you getting gulpers..Plant first then add them and most likely within a couple weeks they will be swimming out of there hiding spots to greet you and swim back to hiding. Also with lots of wood-Must have hiding spots when you first get them as they will be scared swimming left and right looking to hide..
Other then that..they will most like just chill and watch you lol

To answer your question, the people who kept gulper catfish with small fishes....they still got some losses, no matter how small they are. And exodons are not quite small when compared to the fishes that people kept with the gulper catfishes.

That is true. I dont mind an exodon being eaten. What I am questioning is the aggressiveness of the Exodons towards other fishes. So I want to keep my Gulpers safe and not stressed about fish bitting it every now and then.

Exos are fins with teeth, real bad idea, but I commend you for thinking outside the box

And you should be concerned about how expensive is to replace an exodon every time they got eaten by a gulper catfish. Personally I would focus on something smaller, peaceful and cheap schooling fish instead of large, aggressive fish that act like piranhas. I do not see this combo works in long run.
