I thought I saw what looked like White Spots on one of my Gulper Cats. He only had it on his fins but obviously I was concerned. They appear to have gone today, but I don't want to take any chances.

I want to get some meds in so I can be ready if anything was to occur.

However, I am concerned as to what is safe to use with these fish.

Normally, I'd go to a brand I trust: Waterlife. It uses Prozozin (I read in another MFK thread not to use it on Gulpers).

However, is this safe for Gulpers? Am I better to use something like Octozin if it was whitespot (ich) and it returns.

All my water parameters are fine, with Ammonia and Nitrite zero, Nitrates are a little high, but they come out of my tap like that. Water change is approx 30-35% a week, treated with Seachem Prime.

There is another Gulper Cat in the tank along with a number of small fish, which show no signs of ill health.

Just a bit worried to see these white spots (in my opinion it did look like ich on the fins). Strange they would disspear but I do not want to take chances.

So if anyone can recommend a brand (in UK) that I can use safely to cure Ich/Whitespot if it returns I would be grateful.

Never had a problem with these fish, had em for ages. I fear the suspected ich may be a result of one of 3 things:

1. Stess. I recently rescaped the tank and I stressed out the fish. The fish in question literally turded himself. That was around 2 weeks ago though.
2. It is a day after a water change - maybe something got in? Maybe temp fluctuated a little too much.
3. Added a few small fish (all healthy), maybe brought something in. Though I don't think so.

ps. Is salt and raising temp an option?

I have not had gulpers my self, but have used Tetra parasite Guard on my CLs. I would think that the salt method would work just fine as long as you keep an eye out for any undo stress.

Although from what you said the "white spots" went away on their own. I would guess that this was just air bubbles on the fish. I would not treat my fish with any medications with out knowing if it was actually ICK.

100% sure it wasn't air bubbles.

They often get various things on them, like sand, bubbles bits etc...this was deffo 'something' else - maybe not ich, but it looked like it, plus he was scratching every now and again (more than usual). It seems to have gone away (touch wood) so I am doubting it was ich, I did not treat as you say...I wouldn't put my fish through undue stress. I did use supafix (home made Melafix & Pimafix) for 3 days, so maybe that has helped.

Good luck and I hope it turns out to be nothing. Knock on wood
