Hello, folks. After I move in a few weeks, I will be setting up a gulper-only tank. The tank that I have is, I think, a 50 long - it measures 48"L x 17.5"T x 12.5"W. I am debating on whether I can fit two gulpers in there or just one. Regardless, water circulation/filtration will be on the high side for that size of a tank (no filter(s) in hand yet... will get them after the move). I would be fine with only one gulper, but the reading that I do suggests that they can be very social with conspecifics. I wouldn't want my guy/lady to be lonely. Any thoughts?

i would go no more then 2... my friend/LFS supplier which i im getting my gulpers from keeps 11 in a 75 gallon.

their all super healthy and he has lots of filtration and current on the tank. from what ive read and seen at my buddies place they are very social and funny together.. they like to make little mobile mosh pits. they play fight for food. biting the same piece all at once and doing spins at the same time.

on my 56 gallon 36'' 18'' X 20'' there will be 2 AC 110. that's a 16X turnover rate for the tank. im getting 2 gulpers cause he will give them to both for $70 each. plus they don't need a lot of space, just clean water and enough space to turn and wobble around

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was thinking - that a high rate of filtration will allow me to keep a pair in my tank. I just wanted to throw my idea out there in case I was way off... Thanks again!

BTW, I hope I can find mine for $70 per...

ive heard there's a vendor here that sells them for $75. however, if that's not an option i here their very expansive in the USA but much cheaper then they once were. i heard they use to go for almost $500 is some parts.

out of all catfish/pleco they are definitely in the top 10 for most personality and activity. IMO... that's what makes me want one soo bad. also they dont get massive but at the same time are considered a real monster fish beacuse of their capabilities. plus they aint very small either. they may only grow to 10 - 12'' tops but their thick as hell.

Yessir, that is exactly why I want a gulper - a monster that doesn't need a monster home! I am hoping that I can find them for about $100 per. From time to time, folks list them for as low as $50 on the classified forum.

well keep us updated if everything works out.

Will do. And if anyone has any further comments, please feel free to throw them out there. And if you are in the US and have gulpers that you want to sell/see any for sale. I should be ready for them by the end of September at the latest...
