Wow, ok, now after reading about that gulper that ate the black aro, I'm kinda scared to ask this..... I'm picking up a 5" gulper today, and was wondering if he can be kept with 2 (5" diameter disc) retic pups.

The gulper ate that aro that was twice it's length plus 2 inches. Is it worth the risk? I am not sure, but if the gulper eats one, please post the pics.

i think it can be done...first of all the ray is a whole 5 inches in diameter! the arowana was long and skinny...hence the body cud be folded in half in the gulpers stomach....the rays body shape wont fit as easily...just make sure u feed the ray heaps to let him grow quickly

small ray and gulper is bad idea.... i wouldnt try it the gulper could eat it or mess it up and kill it

Now... While we're on the subject of tankmates with Gulpers.
I've got a crazy idea... What about Discus? the gulper I'm getting is about 7'' and if I got full grown discus....

Never mind, too expensive.
What about angels?

i'd say thats a bad idea or suggestion... no offense man. i mean impossible is nothing and i've tried pretty whacked combinations myself. but i think this ones pretty off the hook.

anyway, heres why i think it wont. prolly the rays softer. once it gets in, it'll curl or fold like a burrito and be digested. also, rays are way too delicate and expensive to risk. so i highly discourage you. lastly, i don't think a ray can keep up with a growth rate of the gulper...=/ unless it gets stunned.

oh and i remember reading a post in that Gulper who ate the Aro thread which says that a gulper GULPED the ray.

so i say, don't risk it.

I didn't put the gulper with the rays in the end. I was able to snag another tank to put him in. The idea of putting him with the rays wasn't for a permanent home, just until I got his tank ready, but still wasn't worth the risk even just overnight after all the amazing "My gulper ate <insert giant fish here>" threads.

The gulper was a quick buy, as someone locally was getting rid of it ASAP, so I got a 5" gulper for $40, but didn't have a tank ready for him. Right now he's in a tiny little plastic hex tank I had in the attic, but only for the night. In the morning after cleaning the 20g tall that I picked up. I'll fill it with water from my 90g, and put some used media in the filter and put him in there until he outgrows it. He'll be buy himself in that 20g. I'll post up some pics tomorrow.
