If anyone owns one of these could you tell me a bit about them? What they are like and if they are fun to keep.

I almost bought one today, then I got worried that it might eat my peacock bass, their mouths look quite bit.

The catfish is around 6 inches and fat, my peacock bass is about 3.5 inches and very slender.

Is it worth the risk? How predatory are these catfish?

Cheers,
JR

I had one. It grew to about 8 inches before it died. Ate a lot, and hid from view until night time. Beautiful fish. Wish I could have had him longer. Seemed to enjoy the plants. It's where he hid all day. He ate shrimp pellets presoaked, and worms.

here's a pic of mine after a few months of having him. I was new to aqauriums so cut some slack on the water clarity.

did you try it with any smaller fish? I'm curious to see if one is safe with my little peacock bass.

The 3 in the store today were quite active actually, I liked them.

hmm, I think at one time I had some feeder guppies in there and he never ate them. I assume that as with other catfish each individual is different. Mine never ate anything alive besides worms. Yours could be different. A good rule of thumb is to look at how big the fish is that you want to put in the aqaurium with him and if he can't fit it into his mouth then it will probably be ok. Otherwise I wouldn't risk it, unless you want him to eat it. Mine was not agressive to other fish at all, but again that can vary.

that's kind of what I thought neo, I was looking at the cat and thinking it could JUST about fit the peacock in it's mouth sideways, but it would be a squeeze, and my peacock bass is very fast.

It would be probably be fine, but I decided not to risk it as I definitely don't want my cichla to get eaten
