tested my 10 gallon guppy tank today and ammonia level was... off the chart , the test kit max out at 8.0. the test sample was darker than the darkest color on the chart. i did a water change right away , but that amaze me is that not 1 guppy died, and they're breeding and the fries are doing fine too. tough little fish.

Nice, mine are pretty hardy too.
I have only had mine for about 2 weeks, and I have only had 1 baby survive, which was born the second day after I picked them up. I currently have 2 males and 4 females in a 10 gallon. How often do they breed, and how is your tank setup, filtration, hiding spots, light cycle, temp?? I would love to be breeding guppies as feeders but I haven't had any luck yet since the first few days, which were obviously not concieved in my tank.

females give birth about once a month, I tried breeding them but gave up, I couldn't get the timing right and the babies always got ate, so I let my bichir spend the weekend in their tanks, I now have no guppies.

i have about 20-30 adult guppies in a 10 gallon with some very small snails. with some fake plants gravel and 1 rock. and the fries just appear out of no where (i've never seen eggs). i have small hang on filter on the back and that's it. didn't change water for about 6 months ( until yesterday, i do put more water in when it evaporate to a certain level). i've had to give them away twice ( i just scoop them up with a net and it would be like 20-30 including the fries) so now i'm down to about 15 adults and tons of fries.

guppys drop live fry

Right, they are livebearers, so they give birth to live babies, no eggs. I check the tank for babies twice daily when I feed the main tank, but I haven't seen any. I think if I have had any they are getting eaten by the others.

Yeah they are pretty tough...
They're so fertile as well o_o
Im betting if you put two male guppies in a tank, they would become homosexuals and find a way to make babies.

I wish i had that 'luck' with my first guppies. Maybe I should have left it too for 6 months lol
