Would it be a good or ok idea to keep guppies with discus so they had live food when fry were born?

If you are breeding them then I think go for it.
If you are thinking of getting feeders and putting them in the discus tank, don't!

A lot of people find that discus won't even eat other fishes' fry. A friend did an experiment a few years ago where he let a pair parent-raise some angel wrigglers. You can also use discus as foster parents for other pairs' fry. So you may as well stick to frozen and freeze-dried foods in addition to a good pellet.

My discus were inroduced with several breeding pairs of guppies in the tank. Only the parents are left ,save the few fry hiding in the java moss. no parental care from the Discus!
