ive changed my mind (from breeding clownfish) to breeding guppies instead. what is the average size breeding tank for guppies? a 10 with two males and a female or would the males just bother the female in a tank that small? also, i was hoping to make some money with this so does anyone have any suggestions on variations of guppies that i would be able to make some money on?
thanks guppiman

I'd also give them more room. If you did something like a 30 with lots of females and a few males and tons of floating plants, you'd have a lot of fry... just make sure and only keep one type of guppy per tank, unless you're trying to cross types. Also, guppies thrive in hard, alkaline water, and you'll see fewer issues if you keep them this way. Here's a great salt mix for keeping KH and pH elevated and consistent: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/FWsubwebindex/fwh2oquality.htm. Just keep the water warm and you should have fry in no time. I'd go ahead and start with sponge filters to reduce fry deaths so that you're not trying to switch over to sponge filters in the middle of things and messing up the biological filter.

thanks, i actually have two 30 gallon tanks, what ratio of male to female would u suggest for the tanks, and also what size tanks would u sggest to raise the fry in, i just dont want the parents eating the fry, and also what type of guppies would u suggest?, not sunrise though ive already had some accidental experiences with them ( i had so many fry and not enough tanks so i had to give them away) i will have enough tank this time though

you really don't have to take the fry out if you have alot of plant coverage.

good read too^
prob buy a couple upper end guppies of off aquabid and go from their just make sure their not siblings which could cause future problems

wouldnt it be better to have plants on the bottom? some carpet plant like dwarf hair grass or micro sword would proly be realy good b/c the babies sink when theyre born. i had a mosquito fish give birth outside of the breeding trap and i had plastic breeding grass on the bottom, and i did see a few babies swimming in it. the ones that didnt get into the cover fell onto the gravel and got eaten by my platies that i have mixed in that tank.

definetly buy some higher end gup, you can get more money for each batch of babies when you get them going. o and i haven't tried this yet, but every site says to feed the fry baby brine shrimp. they help the babies grow quicker and gets them to chase after the shrimp so thats probably also a plus.

if u want to make money, the translucent new breed would be awesome
