got some wild guppies in mah pond. been freezing them and using for food for my bgk but then decided to breed them. got tips for weening them onto non live foods?. So far only one has excepted flake and frozen blood worms.

Are you sure they're guppies? If you're in the US, you're likely seeing mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis or G. holbrooki). It makes no difference to training them onto prepared foods, but could make a difference in getting them to breed.

I suggest you just keep offering prepared foods. Starve them for a day or two if necessary; it won't hurt them. Fish have preferred foods just as people do, and may not want to eat a new item if more familiar food is available.

+1, they are probably mosquito fish and that has worked for me to ween them onto prepared foods.

:DGuy at ma & pa lfs told me to put the fish food, any type, in a zip lock bag with a bit of water from where ever the fish are living in, (tank, pond, ect.),either for a few minutes or even a few seconds, before giving it to your fish. It won't taste so 'foreign' to your fish. Everyones water tastes a little different. Some fish are really picky and might not like the 'purified' water that most fish foods are processed with. Hope this helps.:D
