p.s. any tips, tricks and extra info you have picked up of the years will be great to know!!!

The black spot is called the gravid spot. That spot can turn colors like you are describing, sometimes dark, or light, which is the babies moving around inside her. First time mother tend not to have too many babies so they may not get too large, still some do. Yes sometime when they dart around means the time is getting near, most of the time cause they are trying to get away from the other fish to be alone. Watch for her to hide as well, lots of time they like to hide behind the heater near the top of the tank. Best thing to do, if you can, is either set up another tank or divide the one you have now and put your expecting mother in there alone until she has her babies. Also the tank, or divide side with the babies, put LOTS LOTS of plants and floating plants for places for the babies to hide cause the mother WILL TRY to eat the babies. Another good reason to seperate her from the rest of the adults cause they will get the fry as well.

thanks that was very helpfull... just want to know if there is any tips tricks or info anyone has to share... that might be helpful
