Im making my first attempt to breed guppies. got a small tank. at 81 deg. lots of cover, and a filter set up. i trying this for two reasons. as a easy intro to breedig fish. and to feed my native fish. i went to the petstore and boaght 2 females and one male to get me started. i did some research to insure i got two females and one male. it seems the one female trys to hide and stay distant from the other two. the second female seems to want to chase both the others whenever they come in her area or she goes to them. and the male just kinda hangs out and does nothing. i did notice the fan shaped anal fin on the females and the dark spot near it. just wondering if this is behavior of females that are bred already or what was going on. thank in advance.

There is no real trick to breeding guppies. You will get better and faster broods in warmer water.
The male chases the female and fertilizes her, whether she likes it or not. She can store the sperm for several months.
Larger females will generally have more fry. Takes about a month for her to pop them out.

The more females you have the faster you'll have babies obviously. Can buy them fatter (normally pregnant) often and you have a good ratio so far. I would keep the 2:1 ratio. I think I have too many males in my tank right now because I culled too many females. So I need to buy some more ... ha.
I'd keep the tank around 78 but definitely have alot of cover. Java moss works well. A little salt is good too but doesn't really matter too much. they breed a whole lot
if you want fast fry with out the wait just go to any lfs and in some of there tanks that have pants for sale they should have some guppies in them ussaly with a nice fat female ready to pop in days
