So I have a guppy that is laying eggs.

Before you go saying that they are live bearers. I'm well aware of that. But I have a pregnant guppy that I put into a small breeding container that hangs inside my main community tank.

And in the last few minutes she has laid what appears to be 2 eggs. No fry visible.

So anyone have any info on this? I'm thinking they were just not fertilized properly or perhaps is sterile being a fancy guppy.

ive had a few that reabsorbe the eggs but never seen one "lay" them

or perhaps it performed a back of the tank abortion right infront of your eyes :WHOA:

Dunno. Seems the egg like things were a fluid of some kind. Not sure. Just really odd.

the main reason people are advised not to net or put pregnant females in a breeder net is the stress can often lead to her birthing premature fry.Never heard eggs but I suppose its possible.

premature from shock most likely. It happens. You will see some eggs and soon hopefully babies. Not uncommon

She had to be separated as a few of the other tank mates ate the last batch of fry from my platys. Only 4 survived.

Was trying to avoid that this time.

But they were pregnant when I got them not long ago and I'm not trying to breed them. So I'm not terribly worried about it. But if I can save them I'd like to.

best thing you can do is add some real/fake "bushy" plants for the fry to hide in.. large gravel works as well.. but unless you want more fish just let nature do what it does..

my gf "saved" fry for a while... her tank is now over run with little mutt platties/guppies/mollies/muppies that do their best to pick off the eggs of the fish she wants to breed..
