Hi guys. I have 4 guppies and a minnow. I'd like them to mate and populate my tank (besides the baby minnow). But theres a couple of problems. The baby minnow despises my blue male an nips at his fins. I seperated him and I don't wanna flush the little fella. Then one of the two females seems to have an aggression problem, she nipped the red males fins to a point where there is pretty noticable damage. Is there anything that causes this? I tried keeping her fed, but everytime I'm not looking she seems to be assaulting the red male.

The blue male and the other female both seem dosile. I know guppies are supposed to be "just add water", but I seem to have a little soap opera going on in my tank.

You need more females. Males try to mate with females all the time, so with two of each the females are not getting any rest. This is why they fight back. You need at least 4 or 5 females per male to ensure peace.

Also guppies are no easier to keep than any other fish. Long term they need alkaline water, not too strong a current, and filtration as good as for anything else.

Thank you, you answered 2 of my problems. I now know who the daddy is lol. That does make sense. But she also nips at the other female too, which I don't understand. Hopefully if she has her fry, the tank will populate enough for her to be less agressive.

take the minnow back to the store, you will have more fish then you want when the guppies start to breed.

provide cover for the fry(i like plants).
