Recently I have found the need to have and breed a fairly large number of worms for feeding my ray and aro's. At this moment I could feed over 2 dozen large night crawlers a day and the number of worms needed will only go up as the fish grow.
.
To combat the cost of ordering worms by the pound long term I have ordered 2 Gusanito 5 Tray Worm Composting Bins in the hopes I can self sustain the worm feeding bill.
.
As stated I have ordered 2 of the worm bins and am planning on doing a side by side comparison, 1 bin will contain red wigglers and the other will have night crawlers. Each bin will be initially stocked with 1 pound of worms each
.
Any one using this product or a similar composter feel free to chime in and post pics of your set up and results. When my bins arrive I will report ease of set up, quality and so on, then give regular updates on harvests.

Ok here we go ! Everything arrived yesterday afternoon, 2 worm composters, 1 lb european night crawlers and 1 lb red wigglers. Set up was super easy the pics are a progression as they were set up. The media is shreadded newspaper, egg carton, manure and a slight covering of coconut coir. I have more buffalo manure soaking to put in and will put it in tomorrow.

Now to let the worms do their thing. I will follow up with regular progress reports. Hopefuly this will be a good start to being able to raise all the worms I will need for feeding my fish.

I have worms that I grow.. they WERE for my rays, but while yes they breed enough, the worms just dont get big enough in time. It's easier to just buy them IMO.

I still grow the worms.. but I haven't even sifted through them recently.. they just keep growing and growing. Figured not big enough for the rays, but my turtles and lizards sure love them.

Acording to the composting forum I joined 1 lb of red wigglers will turn into 2 lbs in 2 months if kept properly. The european crawlers are slower but all I have to do is put in a few table scraps now and then. if thats all I have to do to save $30 a month on the fish food bill I am game !

What are you raising your worms in ?

The worms are kept in rubber maid totes.. gets turned every few days.. and then they get moved to a fresh bin in every 2 months. I have been slacking on this, but this hasn't stopped them.

I've had great success with raising them, it's just they don't grow to the right size fast enough to be feeders constantly.

nice bins :) im so lazy i just buy em by the pounds and keep em in a plastic see through bins inside the stand along with
the rest of my worms and crickets... lol the crickets are annoying as hell sometimes and sometimes theyre dead silent...lol
