For those who were helping me with my decision in the original thread, I thought it was getting too long and starting a new thread would be easier to work with.

So I've reconsidered some of the options I mentioned before, here is the new idea:

1 Silver Arowana (temporary still), 1 Striped Raphael Catfish, 1 Green Terror, 1 Ornate Bichir, and 1 large African catfish species (like a Cuckoo or a Featherfin).

You appear to be running away from the one aspect that's important and instead are re-imagining a thread in which your fantasy will be approved of. Raise fish you can house permanently or raise fish that as adults your LFW will love to have as a donation. If you can't permanently home the fish you'd like to own the responsibility aspect will not go away.

When putting fish in a tank they get too big for, the word "gutsy" would "not" be what I use.
And ultimately expecting someone else to undo the folly by taking over, once the tank becomes inadequate is also not gutsy.
Other words such as uninformed, unrealistic, inhumane, irresponsible, or ill advised come to mind.

I have a friend that runs an exhibit at a public zoo, he say unrealistic people come to the zoo almost every day to drop off fish they are unable to take care of, and he has to turn down them all.

That 55 is barely big enough for for 1 green terror and one other of the smaller species.

Yeah, I agree with you on pushing the tank size for the Green Terror, but it is better than many of the options I've considered. I mean at least the Green Terror could stay in my tank permanently.

A gt can barely fit in a 55 permanently. A fish capable of hitting 12 inches would barely be able to turn around.
If you like the gt, the blue acara cichlid (Wild type) looks just like a gt and stays much smaller.

This is coming from my own experience, you will find a tank full of fish that can truly stay in there for life far more rewarding than one with a group of fish that don’t belong.

Just get compatible fish that won’t outgrow your tank or get another tank. There’s plenty of alternatives to these that are compatible that won’t get too big

Read over your original thread which really wasnt that long, but the fact that you think so gives me some insight into your mindset.

I think youre approaching this with the idea that you will keep the fish for a few months and get rid of them somehow when they outgrow your tank, become incompatible or you just become bored with them. Not my style but plenty of people do it. Its just not fun imo, keeping a bunch of crammed-in fish that are constantly beating on or killing each other.

I think youre looking for someone, anyone to come out and tell you its a good idea. I dont think youll get much support here. If you are dead set on trying these large growing fish in your small tank i would just insist that you find a way to rehome them before their situation becomes unhealthy. Not the most responsible thing but better than becoming disinterested and neglecting them to death or letting them eviscerate each other.

Personally i would try one of the cichlids you're interested in. I think 55 is small but acceptable for a GT so long as you are keeping up with water changes/maintenance once the fish grows large. Consider a cuban cichlid as an alternate. Not quite as large, still very aggressive and interactive.

Ok...I think I may have come up with a better idea, instead of listing out what I want and getting approval based on my list, how about people who have/had 55-gallon tanks and have/had kept ANY SA cichlid or fish in them list what the tank mates were.

I won't copy the exact setups, but I can pull from various setups to find what I like and at the same time, provide a good home where my fish can stay permanently.
