Feeding out of my hand as normal 2 hours ago, went next door for a beer came back and dead. The most friendly discus we've ever had gone for no reason :(

Been keeping fish for years, haven't had a bad day since we lost the 2 big plecs on the same day about 9 months in the other tank again for no reason

Any ideas? I had a 8" pigeon blood that died on me last month....Kind of same situation as you....He was eating and active like normal, the next day he was dark and hanging on the top of the tank....It looked like one of his eyes was bulging out....3 hours later, he was dead and that same eye was all fungused over....Killed me.

Tested for everything last night 0 nitrates, ph spot on, did a 50% water change anyway. All the other fish are fine.

It's sad but at least yours had some symptoms, ours went from feeding fine to dead in 2 hours, looked 100% fine even when it was dead :(

Has this happened to anyone else, ideas??

We've been feeding them Improveit discus food with cichlid mix frozen blocks for about 6 months now, not changed brands or anything with no problems. Tend to feed the blocks around an hour before water changes as the make a mess of the tank, even though the fish love them.

I'm sure I've posted this pic somewhere before but as it's an online funeral thread I post it again,

Thanks for you comments:

If not the food or water, could there have been something on your hands?
Lotion or even a bit of soap residue?
