Random Ramble-...Growing up, my dad and I were always fishing. I remember fishing back home in Guyana where we would throw cast nets and haul seine's we would always catch these amazing pleco's and hoplo catfish among other amazon goodies (almost everything was huge in the water back then). As a kid I had no idea I would grow up and find these same species worth all this money around the world. Oh how I miss those simple days. It would be great if a trip to my LFS was right in my backyard still lol. If I had known I would have started my own breeding collection back then. Back home noone really has aquariums as it is not such a big hobby over there. Where we are from pleco's, hoplo's, peacock bass, etc are all staple food items. Now I wish I had those same luxuries of going backdam or a few foot steps to the nearest river and casting my net and getting some of these fishes regularly ...maybe even finding new aquarium fish that havent been discovered yet. Guyana has a huge abundance of rare and unique species and each year 5,000+ new species of animal are discovered in the rainforest's (The last largest natural rainforest left in the world), imagine the waters were explored. I remember seeing an episode of River Monsters that took place in Guyana and the species of arapaima that Jeremy Wade caught was actually new to science. He even claimed throughtout the world he has never met a river systems such as Guyana's that houses so many River Monsters in one location. Only thing that sucks is with all the Gold Dredging and soon to be oil excavation maybe those same waters may cease to exist but we will see one-day.

A dream vacation of mine has always been to see these rainforests in person. I fear that they won't be around for much longer. It must have been amazing to grow up in such a different culture with so much nature in your back yard.

Guyana is truly a beautiful country. If you plan on exploring the Rain Forests please have great guides as the country can be dangerous as well. For the most part people are warm and welcoming and even give you a sense of family bond but there are also devious and dangerous people as well. It is the last place to ever let your guard down. In the jungles I believe only 10% has ever been explored. You would love the abundance of Fauna and Flora and if you are lucky maybe even get to see the mythical Jaguar. Don't get me started on fruits lol you would have so much new fruits to try almost anywhere you go. Key word is safety though the locals can literally smell the foreign on you lol I am from Guyana and blend in pretty well but they still know I came from America. Oh and avoid traveling to Guyana during Election time as political unrest can get dangerous as well. Hopefully I gave you some insight to your possible future vacation! E Eclipse390

Lol sounds like my dream home. Plenty of land with almost no people around to bother me, plenty of dangerous animals and plants, plenty of fish to eat and keep as pets, a multitude of things to find and explore. Lol only thing that would make it better is having my own pet jaguars to help with hunting.

Lol not to mention land is dirt cheap right now you can get a ton of acres for cheap. With the discovery of oil as of recent though Guyana's economy will sky rocket. BBC estimates Guyana may end up being 1 of the richest countries in the world now since about 5.5 billion barrels of oil are estimated to have been found. Land will go up in a heart beat. Magnus_Bane Magnus_Bane Hopefully our jungles and rivers are left protected as I know for sure in South America each country has its own unique species to it water systems such as Brazil's 7 pointer l25's, Suriname's Geophagus Surinamensis, Suriname's Black Dragon Pleco's, etc...

O yeah, I hate seeing a beautiful place just turn into towns and cities. I'd rather see nature stay nature. Personally if I ever get land out in a beautiful place like that, it would have a small house and hopefully a nice pond and leave the rest untouched. I don't like seeing/hearing people if I don't have to, so dense trees and plant growth are always a plus for me. Knowing me I'd love the animals regardless of how poisonous/venomous or outright deadly they could be, gotta be better then seeing deer, raccoons, coyotes, and fields upon fields of cattle.

Awesome, I know some folks back home keep ponds some even keep arapaima in their ponds . You would have plenty of space and dense jungle vegetation to help you remain out of sight. I am the same way I like staying hidden myself. Sometimes you can even grab a rod or cast net and spend a peaceful day fishing the rivers. Magnus_Bane Magnus_Bane

Well that is definitely one of my favorite hobbies, same with hunting and hiking. Also with all that jungle there would be plenty of places to explore and new things to discover.

ya i grew up in brazil catching pearl cichlids and buenos aires tetras and we would just catch like 50 at a time and throw them on the fire to eat they were so easy to catch just use a bamboo pole and a sliver of worm.

Trust me you never know what you are going to find in Guyana. It a whole new world literally it has it's own feel. Not to mention we are the only non-spanish speaking countries so 99% of the people speak english. We sort of have the jamaican accent going on. If you really want to explore check out a tour for Kaiture Falls. The largest single drop waterfall in the world deep within the jungles. I guarantee your mind and body will reset. The country itself feels a bit spiritual and mythical at the same time and alot of local still hold on to old time beliefs. Lol I miss it even more now.. Every morning you wake up you will hear parrots for miles and probably monkeys as well. Magnus_Bane Magnus_Bane
