It is sad to see posts everyday about their prized fish dried up on the floor or found in their cats mouth.

If there is even a .0000000000000000000000000001% chance a fish could fit through a crack... put something in the crack. ESPECIALLY by the filter... this seems to be waaaaaaaay too common. If you see a crack and it makes u pause and think for even a millisecond... plug that thing up

Play it safe, COMPLETELY cover your tank. It is worth the extra 20 minutes to stuff somethign in the crack.

Also, make sure you weigh down the hood...

this especially goes otu to all the aro/bichirs/ropefish/eels/knifefish/ect keepers.

Yes, it is extremely important to cover all parts and big fish can as you said knock the lid out of the way and still get out so we all need to weigh them, ty them or what ever.

Knife fish? they jump???? mine never even swam ha ha

But yea its a good idea to cover up. plus it reduces evap

in the lab i work out, we have to cover the black ghosts tanks and the eigemannia tanks for sure... they end up on the floor every once in a while

My first fire eel would find any little space and try to get out of the tank. I would find it inside the HOB filter at least once a week.

Lesson learned, the tank my current eel is in has all holes taped up and no HOB filters.

I always cover my tanks, wouldn't feel safe otherwise. Not worth the risk.
