Hi guys.

I'm looking at getting a group of these shortly, and would like some advice regarding temperatures.

During the warm time the tanks temperature will be around 24C (76F) and during the cold period the tank's heater will be disconnected, and the temperature will average around 18C (65F), but possibly raising to 20-22 (68F-72F) at the middle of the day.

Do you think this is okay or will a chiller be completely necessary to stop these fluctuations during the day?

Cheers.

Type Balzanii tank temperature in advance search box, and you will get some info on the cool down periods .:)

Thanks guys. I did search but was more concerned with the daily fluctuations in the cold period, rather than the actual average temp. I suppose it would mimic a shallow pond in their natural habitat either way.

Great looking fish, and very interesting to hear about the cold temperatures! I'm guessing they were in a pond of some sorts? How big, and do you know what the water temperature got down to?

I keep my Uruguayan strain balzani in and unheated tank, where in summer, it gets to 80'F for a few days, in winter into the mid 60sF. I may try them in the pond next spring, I've kept Gymno quilero there spring thru fall where temps get down into the high 40sF.

Hi
For the first year I kept them in the house without any heating. The lowest temp. was about 15c.Then I moved them last December (our summer )outside into 1000L container. There are 6 of them in there with lots of plants, and only air stone no filtration. The water was very green in the summer,so I could not see them.I caugth them after 3 months.I could not believe the good condition that they were in.They also get alot of live food. The coldest it gets by us is about 1c on a winter morning. In summer heighest temp. is about 35c outside. The tank is standing in very shaded part of my garden.I wonder what strain mine is,the petshop only had them as G.balzanii.
