Hello everyone,

I am new at this. So please help me if you can. I saw a picture of these fish and fell in love. They are so cute. I am willing to put in the work to provide the perfect environment for those beautiful fish. I always give 100% in what I do. What is the best setup and tank mates for them?

I keep my Balzanii in a 75g. Tank has sand substrate and no heater. Round rocks and wood. Tankmates are other Gymnogeophagus, tetras, and Pepper cories.

Balzanni are a mellow fish. They harem breed, so one male and multiple females is good. The picture you show are from Uroguay so need a winter cooldown period. Mine are at 68* now.

Fishfarm sells the fish you are looking for (and he is located in Georgia).

Are you in the club? I think Ken still has some young balzanii.

will the different types of Gymnogeophagus inter breed and form hybrids?

balzani are pretty dominant, i got surinemeis, jurupari, and damons, all together, but the balzanis keep bullying the other geos, they look pretty hardy fish to me doing good in my tank

THats a really nice looking fish, after seeing it i kind of want to buy one. Once i get my bigger tank i thinki i might buy one lol

Will they become territorial when eggs are laid, and how do i separate them without harming the eggs?

From what I understand, each female wil choose a site and the male will go to each female and fertilize the eggs. I believe they will each get territorial with eggs and fry.

Pete has a good thread somewhere tell all he experiences with them.
