gymnogeophagus meridionalis or gymnogeophagus norte

I'm definitely no authority but they could be a bit small to id. I've kept rhabdotus and they looked exactly like yours do at this size. Where did you get them? Where did they get them?

they are about 1"-1.5" in size, i got them from a lfs called SomethingFishyinc in cleveland, idk where he gets his stock tho, never asked about that.

I'm gonna grow them out for a few months then ask again, hopefully when they get bigger it'll be easier to I.D.

Cute little guys! I believe they are in the Gymnogeophagus rhabdotus complex rather than the G. exMerdionalis complex. I don't have a reference sheet anymore but if my memory serves me right rhabdotus has striped caudal fin while exMerdionalis has a combination of spots and stripes.

FYI in case you don't know these guys should be kept in a unheated tank, allowing the temp to range in the 60s in the winter to high 70s to 80s in the summer.

Well whatever they are, they are really active and very playful! Hmmm, this means i can setup another tank in the basement just for them! but i have them im a 38G for now with the temp at 79°F, is that okay? The tank also has a few loaches and wood cats.
