iv been told they grow slowly, particularly since they dont need to be fed but once every few days to once a week. in fact iv even been told that if i bought one at about 1.5' i could keep it in a 55 gallon for 3 years before having to upgrade to a 125 gallon... and yes it would probably be a species only tank so the eel would have it all to itself.

thoughts? personal experiences? i love the idea someone gave me to do away with live rock for the most part in a tank like this and just use a wet/dry and eventually a skimmer. to provide hiding places i could just place PVC pipe caves under the sand.

IMO, a tank with only a zebra eel would be boring because they are quite shy and hide most of the day.

Even MORE boring if the idea of aquascaping in the tank is pvc pipes and sand. At the very least... build a couple small, isolated rock structures. Remember, the more accurately you recreate your pets environment the happier and healthier it will be. And that should always be the first goal of the aquarist.

well iv considered getting a dwarf fuzzy lionfish to go with the eel. so it souldnt be boring - and even if i didnt i still really like that type of eel so i still wouldnt think it would be boring - , and i left out the part about how, yes, i would decorate with rocks and stuff to hide the pvc caves; i just left that out cause it wasnt important. i just wanted to know if the mechanics of the tank and its filtration would work. im new to SW and i have no experience in it thats why im asking.

i would use a skimmer right away, tight fitting lid, the rest seems fine.

Tight fitting lid is a must...Ive lost fire/tiretrack eels in freshwater to that... Find up a week later underneath the carpet. :D
