its difficult to find out alot about these guys on the net. i got him given to me by th LFS, however, they said it was freshwater, haha, go figure! well i set up a 55 gallon for him, but now i need some other tank inhabitants so that he dont bore me to death!

first i have to acclimate him to the brackish water first, i put 3 large tablespoons of sea salt mix in with some warm water and mixed it real well then dumped it in the water hes in now, can i add like 2 large tablespoons daily to get this started or is that too much? if thats too much, how much should i add and how often?

any information i can get about gymnothoras tile would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!!!

you need a hydrometer to measure the salinity, going by how much you dump in there will lead to inaccuracy.

too answer your salt question one of my lfs owners had a lot of g tiles in fresh and said he threw them directly into marine w/out problems (dont recommend of course) but 3 tbsp a day is very little in a 50 gal

my G. Tile is about 18 inches, so i added more salt, but my hydrometer is for full blown salt wateri guess cause the lowest reaeding is for 1.0010

oh, and i got a whole bunch of guppies from a friend and threw them in there as well hoping he will eat when he is ready, i also threw in some rosy reds as well. if the G. Tile dont eat them then i will net them and throw them in the 120 gallon with the jag and oscar, i know they will eat them for sure!

Get a hydrometer that starts to read at 0 SG.Then start to raise your SG 0.002/week. If you start to raise salinity to quickly you will kill off your beneficial bacteria in your tank and filters. You should also aim for a PH of about 7.5 to 8. I use aragonite sand to raise PH in my tank. Crushed coral is also a excellent choice. Good luck with your eel they are awesome predators.
