Anyone have any ideas where i can purchase true Hydrolycus Armatus. I had 2 payara's, but in hind sight i do not believe they were Armatus. I know a local pet store who does import rare fish, and has some payara's, but i dont believe them to be Armatus. They had no black on their fins, only reddish orange, and seem to swim at more of an angle than do the Armatus, with their nose pointing down and tail up. I believe these to be the same as the ones i bought, and the ones i had died after about 8 months of having them. They went from about 3-4 inches to 8-9 when they died in those 8 months, however the cause of death is a mystery. They were not picked on by other fish at all. Water quality was great, and all other fish were unaffected including 3 GATFs. 1 died about 2 months ago, and the other this week, and i see that this seems to be a common occurance for species other than Armatus. Any ideas where to look would be great, or if anyone has any thoughts about differentiating between the different species that would be helpful. Thank you all

There is a vendor on here,Sharkaquarium. They have a store and also do online sales. The store is in north Jeresy and they still have a few armatus left as I was just there this past weekend and saw them.

.....and as for differentiating between the species you should check out the other characins section and study the information in the stickies at the top of the page there.

Cool guys, thanks a lot ... i did some research, and believe i had H. tatauaia. Still an awesome fish and am so upset about the loss. Thanks for the help, and i'm curious to see the difference between the 2 first hand. Looks like i'm headed to NJ ASAP!! Thanks again
