My carpinte escondidos layed eggs on Saturday night/Sunday morning. They layed around 1,000 brownish eggs, but now about 200 are white! I know this means that these eggs are dead, but I've never seen so many eggs go bad so fast. The parents aren't picking them off either! What's wrong?

If you want, I have pics, but I doubt it will help identify the problem.

Thanks in advance!:)

Even though the hatch rate isn't too bad, why aren't the parents eating the dead eggs? All my other cichlids do.

It's only day 2 also, more are bound to turn white.

ohhh, i ddint know that when eggs turn white theyu are dead, this is what happened to my covicts first batch last week. they had their first set of eggs and they turned white over 2 days and the eggs kept minimizing in numbers. the whole lay. hmm. can water conditions do this or what other possible causes, the mother and father are the only fish in that tank. just wondering for future reference.

Mom and Pop are with 2 4" endi's. They don't even know that each other exist and the endi's don't touch the eggs. The parents are around 4-5", so maybe that's why.

water is perfect, but the temp was a little cool, so I bumped it back up to the low 80's.

I came home today and watched mom starting to eat the eggs, so I think she just didn't figure it out yet. Unfortunately, she ate the live one's too.

We'll see what happens her next spawn.
