Question: Is it true that H. Carpintis grows to 12 inches like other sites reported? Or they grow to only 17cm (about 8")?

Were they just mistaken for the H. cyanoguttatus which grows to 12"?

Thank you...

O thanks for that info.. One last question? can i breed them say in a 35g?

Convicts grows to about 6" and can be bred in a 20g aquarium so I thought maybe
8" of fish can breed in a 35?

If not then I would stop myself from getting another Carpinte...

I wouldn't suggest anything smaller than a 55gallon for carpinte, 75 would be better. I'm not positive how big they get but 8" does not sound right. I'd say at least 10" but don't quote me.

Yeah it didn't sound right to me at first too.. But that is what many literature said.. and urbaninja sounds like he keeps them and said that they will only grow to about that size as well..

If they grow to be more than 8" then i will not attempt to breed them, as I don't have enough space to fit another tank larger than a 35..

i think carpintis are a sweet fish

Of all the pictures of all the Carpintis & all the Cyano I have never once (not even close) seen a picture of one bigger than 7-8" nose to tail. I keep 'reading' also that Cyano "are a foot long" and Carpintis "are 10" long". It's rather hard to believe that when in all my searchings I've never seen either that big. But yet everyone keeps claiming that's how big they get.

I have a REAL 7". He is 17,5 cm . It took 3 a half years to get that size. So , if he lives over 8 years he will probably reach 10" but at a very slow growth rate.

someone a couple months back was selling a 12" carpintis escondido
