i picked up 5 psittacus in september or october at .25-.5" in size. they're have grown awesome since i got them. their main staple of diet is omega one shrimp pellets but like most cichlids are pigs and eat anything. when they were small half a shrimp pellet would fill them up lol. they eat until they look like they're gonna burst :D 2 have grown alot more than the other 3, the largest being 3.5". they are F2, F0 father and F1 mother. the largest 2 are starting to show some nice red under their head.

in the fall

I saw my first one of those fish about 20 years ago at a friends who was breeding, shell dwellers at the time, he had a huge male in a 75 gal tank, that fish must have been a foot long, and bulkier than any oscar i ever saw, and Mean!!! when i went up to the tank he tried to bust the glass trying to get at me  woahhh, anywho, i have been looking for a small one for years with no luck, glad to see you are having such a good time with yours, they are really coloring up nicely. If you ever get a bunch of fry, remember us old guys :)

i got them from a local who's on here, cartersvillealex. he still has some fry left when i talked to him last week. his have had fry quite a few times if i remember correctly. his pair are huge, 12+" and mean. his male beat the crap out of the female a week or so ago. i dont plan on breeding them, just keep one in my 125g community

they are gorgeous, definitely something on my want list as well...I like to think of them as chocolate cichlids on steroids
