Bought this guy (Louie) back in mid-August at 3 1/2". Now 4 months later he is between 8+9", more than double his purchase size. The first pic is of him the day after purchase, and then some pics I just took tonight. Sorry about the water spots and glass scratch that looks like a white scratch on the fish, that is not on the fish! :) I am still assuming he is male because of the prominent forehead and extra long fins. If anyone knows it to be otherwise, let me know I am wrong.

Deff a male I have a nice female growing right now if your ever interested

Very nice!

Hows the temperament?

Ive been thinking about maybe getting one with some stock changes when I set up my 210g.

Great growth and development ! He/she's going to be a monster !

It was my understanding that chocs truly are monomorphic though, and the the females can also get humps and have pointy flowing fins.

Males have a taller bulid to them while females will be long and thinner.

Nice chocolaty. They ate such cool fish. My lfs has one in a show tank. I'm sure he keeps it there just to annoy me because I want it.

Lol. Make them a offer. :)

Thanks for the nice compliments everyone. I am very proud of Louie. I have known a few friends to own Choco. cichlids, which is how they became my favorite fish, but this is my first Chocolate cichlid and I love him. Every time I am within site of the tank he comes out looking for a snack. After being fed he follows me around in front of the tank and does a little side to side dance begging for more food.

His temperament is very timid. He is easily stressed or scared, especially when doing water changes or rearranging stuff in the tank. But upon walking up to the tank, he always comes out to say "feed me, homie". I think if I were to pop another fish in there around his size he would do ok, but anything smaller I feel he would pick on. And the only reason I think adding another fish could be a problem is because he has had the 90g to himself for a bit over a month and has made his territory in there.

Thanks for the offer on a female Chocolate, too, but I have no plans on breeding. And, thanks again for the kind words about Louie, everyone. ;)

His diet- Hikari mini-pellets, Hikari algae wafers, skinned peas, romaine lettuce, crickets, and lastly frozen blood worms once a week.
