i'm getting a vittatus at 4".. gonna put him in a 75gal growout.. how long till he reaches 9-10"? wanna mix him with my silver aro.. also i have a 400gph powerhead running in the 75gal, would that be ok for a 4" vittatus?

It will take min 1year. Don't see them housing together ever if you currently own the silver. These guys grow slow even with heavy feedings. You don't see very many atfs bigger than 10". There are probly more goliaths than vittatus 10"+

your powerhead should be fine... If it looks to strong then it probly is

i was worried about that..so they grow less than an inch a month? my silver is about 7" right now, but i know silvers can reach 20+" in a year..
how come there are few atfs bigger that 10? do they die off like scombs?

Pics please.

I bought a 4"-5" VATF Dec 07 it is now pushing 14". I did notice a small increase in growth when I put him in a 300. So not a massive growth rate, less than half an inch a month. It's an unresolved issue as they grow much quicker in the wild. Constant suppliy of high protein foods, a good flow to build muscle mass and usually fish living in higher flow rivers are more adversly affected by nutrients in the water i.e. Nitrate. So your best bet is clean water, good food and some flow. It will be interesting to see if the flow is too much as mine has always really liked it, Make sure there is a place to get out of the flow though.

is the atf in your avatar yours? did you grow it out or get it with some size already?

It is mine... My pride n joy!
I got him when he was 9" or so... He is currently 15" n growing.
I feed daily market shrimp n once a week massivore pellets

not sure why no one has them bigger than 10" as they are imported more than goliaths, so there is something fishy Lol

How about some pics?
