I got to see one in person and all I have to say is that I really like this catfish. Whats the true max size and could one be kept in a 240 gallon for all its life?

it will max out around 24" and can be kept for life in a 240gal,, but it will not allow any tankmates,, so you have to dedicate a whole tank just for the wyckii. Mine is currently in solitary confinement after it killed 2 motoros :wall:

I dont mine keeping it alone.

What other experinces have you had with yours will it swallow fish half its size like a RTC or just rip them up?

I have never kept this fish, but my cousin has one at the moment at about 12". to see its aggressive nature on its own is difficult, but as it gets to adult size im sure this will change, have seen them attacking peoples hands in the tank, so beware, but thats all part of the fun.i know someone (lophius) has his in a community without any problems, but then again not your average community tank (rtc, p-bass, Boulengerchromis) . if mixed when small i think you could get away with it, but there is a risk.Think the Artc is worse aggression wise, but the wyckii is a more handable size, plus go faster stripes :)

I just got rid of one I got at 2", but it grew FAST and ate like a mad man. They are mean as hell. once mine hit 10", about 4 mnths or so, he started attacking my fh and devil. when id wake in the morning, they would all have bite marks and shredded fins. was doing a water change and he took a good dime to nickle sized chunk out of the middle of my thumb and index finger. OUCH. never got bit by my old RBP's, but after keeping that cat, watch your fingers. No joke, they will attack and can take flesh. other than that, the red started to come on to the tail around 8". pretty fish, mean as hell.

mine has stopped growing now 21" and yep i've kept in in a community tank since it was 4". Recently I moved her to her own tank as someone was going to buy her - which fell through .. anyway since i put her on her own I have noticed a marked increase in aggression -- I think its down to tank size ..
