Being as you all do alot of post on wood based aquariums I figured ya'll would be the best peeps to ask.

I'm currently working on the final habitat for a frilled dragon. I want it water tight on the bottom and sides as i'm plumbing a waterfall into it.

I've read about using marine epoxy paint to seal the wood. Should I paint all my interior pieces before assembly or should I get everything together and then paint several layers?

I also figure that the seams will need to be sealed as well. I recall ge silicon 1 for windows and doors is aquarium safe, but is there something better that ya'll reccomend? My family has told me about taping the edges of the edges, laying out the silicon then spraying it with windex makes for a smoother going seam. Would I be better off nixing the windex and just spread it out?

The background I was planning on doing would be made of polystyrine foamcarved to look like a rock wall covered in a type of aquarium safe grout. What are some aquarium safe grouts are there (if any), also is great stuff foam aquarium safe?

not too sure but i would think that grout would make the water very alkaline. also, why dont you use pond armor to seal the sides and bottom?? and if you go that route you should pick up some 2 part epoxy. you have to do one seam at a time but it is 100 % guranteed leak proof. you first tilt the tank on a side and prop it up so that the corner is facing downward and than you can pour resin into the corner. when this cures it is not only rockhard but completely waterproof and you get professional results if you take your time. than coat the rest of your surfaces with pond armor, it comes in a few different colors.
