Although the 3D was siliconed on, it's been working loose over the years, and fish get behind it. It's been warming and the rut has started with the male beani killing any rival or non receptive females.
After a carcass became apparent under the loose background, I removed the background into the shower, and found 3 more dead beani.
He and the only female left have been moved to a divided 55.

turned out well, as it was time to move the Tomocichla asfraci from their growout, and the 150 should work well for them.

and because the Lepidolamprologus have spawned again, it seemed only right to move the Acarichthys and Guianacara from the Lepido area to the saftey of the newish asfraci tank.

Sucks. Hopefully the reinstallation goes well. Nice looking Beani, btw!

Thanks all, the male is approx 10"(including the caudal).
I'm up in the air about reinstalling the background, it is thick, buoyant, and never quite fit flush. I'm thinking I could cut it up and do 2 or 3 smaller tanks with it, and maybe trim off some girth. It's 72 X 24. The tank looks pretty good without it, and there seems to be much more space..

I didn't think it was particularly fast growth, I've had him a little over a year, and he was @2" when I got him.
I do daily partial water changes, 25%-40% in summer, less in winter.
Feed a low protein diet of HBH Super Soft Spirulina and and HBH Goldfish pellets.
And keep the beani at temps around 66'-68'F in winter, and 72-75' in summer.
The tank they are in, is filtered only by a planted refugium, plants emerging from the tank, and filter socks in the sump. Pump is a Laguna 2400gph. In summer I add fractionation.
