Well, after 2 years of keeping our adopted retired greyhound, we had to put her to sleep this morning.
She was a racing greyhound at one point and when she was to old for that, she was put into a greyhound adoption agency. She was adopted by a family for several years, but was abused and put out on the streets to die. She was again rescued by another greyhound adoption agency, and that is when we picked her up. My mom will only adopt kennel dogs and has a huge soft spot for older dogs, mainly because she feels bad for them and no one else will want them.
So, we adopted Preacious at 8 years old, and she has lived out the greatest life she could have with us. About a year ago though, she was diagnosed with bone cancer. We knew this would eventually get her, but we still loved her. Late last night, and early this morning, she could not walk, her back end was limp and was having a hard time to walk. So my parents brought her to the vets this morning, and an early test gave sign to that one of her disks in her back broke out, should could not feel/control her hind legs. It was either to go under x-rays and dangerous surgery to be under pain with her cancer, or to put her down, so we put her down. I have had two other dogs before her, and I must say she was the greatest, with the most unique personality in the world, and I will truely miss her.
