A difficult day.
For some time I have been putting off the inevitable.

Last Christmas my 7 inch JD had been bulling my big Jag. Long story short, eventually the Jag locked up with the JD and ended up breaking the jaw of the JD.
I tried to reset it, but could not and the JD was left with a limp lower jaw and no ability to suck anything into his mouth. I tried to keep him going by using a feeding tube to direct food into his mouth. He kept deteriorating until the point I knew I had to put him out of his misery.
He no longer is suffering and I feel like sh*t

The attached pic is about two weeks after it happened.

THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had him for 3 1/2 years.

Sorry for your loss, but I think you did the humane thing, better this then him being uncomfortable and starving....On another note Jags are damned powerful fish...

I really was second guessing my self-The last three months I have been telling myself that I could keep him going. I finally realized that I might not be doing the right thing for the fish.
Very true that Jag's are powerfull-although in this case the little guy was the aggressor.

You did the right thing I like to know after he broke his jaw did he still try to bully him

No--once the swelling went down, he still flared his gills and had a little aggression, as time went on however he just kept to himself-it seemed that his co-ordination was really thrown off as went food was dropped in he would often miss it badly.

Again-this hurts I have always wanted a mature male JD. I have a 6 year old female and hoped that they may breed one day.

Thats sucks. You did the right thing though. Sorry for the loss.
