Hagen Glo T5 HO Remote Ballast System

I was wondering if anyone actually has experience using this retrofit system from Hagen. Someone in my area is selling one for relatively cheap. Unfortunately this Hagen set up does not come with bulbs or reflectors, but I'll work around that. Pretty new to retrofits, so any tips are welcome.

I used the Hagen Glo retrofit in my new 180g. For a reflector I build my own hood and set in a unit made from 1/4 " plywood and painted gloss white. Works great and very inexpensive. I actually used 2 kits, one on each end with 4 x 36" bulbs. I mounted the ballasts on the outside back corners of the hood. Easy to get at to turn lights on and off and most of the heat is on the outside.

Do you use it on a freshwater or saltwater tank? Are you growing any plants if its a freshwater tank? Pros/Cons?
