I have been trying to choose between the two for months. I have a colormax on my planted tank with a 6700k to accent my guppys it looks good.

I have also been looking at peoples pictures on here and see alot of the really bright fish pics useing powerglows. I am just wondering if the price difference is worth it to get powerglows.

This bulb will be for my fish only tank, t5 bulbs no plant life to support.

the 18,000k powerglo is an all around nice bulb for highlighting all fish colors, especially blues and purples. the light is more of a whitish/purple color

if they aren't the same wattage they are not compatible, you'll get neither the correct out nor life expectancy out of the lamp. Ballast restrict the current flowing through the lamp since voltage x current x power factor= wattage, change any variable and you change the output. I have a 6700k and 10,000k for my planted and don't have any complaints concerning the growth of my plants or colors of the fish. This combo seems to work better than when I had a 6700k with a colormax.

well the powerglows dominated the poll, but I went coralife.

I do trust the poll, but check your local petco I went in there for something else and they had the colormax for 7.00 on sale.
