I'm looking at getting a Hagen T5 48" Double bulb fixture with 2 life-glo 2 bulbs. Just wondering if anyone who has this setup on top of a planted tank could tell me how often they have to change the bulbs, and what kind of plants they have growing under this light. If you could post a picture that would be great. Thanks in advance.

I have the 36" model with two life-glo lamps. I use it on a 40g breeder with dwarf baby tears, dwarf hairgrass, and a few different stem plants. It's my first planted tank, so I just threw an assortment of plants together to see which grew best. I don't use CO2, but I dose with flourish excel daily. The plants seem to be doing well so far. The thing I don't like about this fixture is, although it is a double lamp fixture, the lamps are kind of close together and sit under one reflector. Therefore the light spread is pretty narrow. I'm replacing it soon with a retrofit kit with individual reflectors so I can space the lamps out how I want.

dont buy it!!!

i have one that i won for free in an mfk raffle and i use it only because it's free lol. i really dont like this fixture at all. its built very cheaply and i hate hate hate the fact that it doesnt have any power switches. you need to unplug it from the wall to turn off the lighting. also, if for any reason you decide to run one bulb only, it wont work. it needs to have two bulbs running in order for it to turn on.

for cheaper options, look at www.fishneedit.com , if you want a superior light fixture, look at www.catalinaaquarium.com
