On the super color bottle, I noticed that it reads "Super Immune Substance Added". What IS the Substance? I always thought Hai Feng didn't use hormones but this makes me think otherwise.

Other than the manufacturer themselves, no one is going to be able to answer your question.

Something as simple as vitamin C could qualify as being a "super immune substance", so I wouldn't jump to any conclusions with regards to hormones. Typically hormones are used in fish feed as a color enhancer, and seeing as most Hai Feng "color" foods generally only produce results in one spectrum (such as the color red) that would remove hormones from the equation, as hormones that are used in fish feed generally make all colors become very enhanced, even in juvenile fish, and females.

Can you name a fish food that has hormones in it?

First of all I should clarify the term hormones, as any fish food that contains marine proteins derived from fish, contain hormones. But those types of hormones are natural growth hormones, that are found in all fish found in nature.

In Asia the use of sex hormones are typically utilized to cause juvenile fish to show fully mature coloration. This is quite common in the African cichlid trade, where fish that typically don't mature or show color until 4-6" are already showing full color at 2". (or less) It's a sales tactic, as colorful fish sell far faster than fish with no color. Unfortunately these types of hormones also typically cause female fish to also fully color up, and once those hormones wear off the females will lose their color, possibly become sterile, and the males will lose most of their color, and sometimes never regain it. Long term use of steroids in fish food has been associated with skeletal deformity, increased susceptibility to infections, and pathological changes in the liver, kidney, and digestive tract.

I don't know of any fish food manufacturers that are based in the USA that use these types of hormones in their food.

It all depends on how well you know the products and your opinions of them. I use hai feng super color ordered from aquaticwonderland for $41 for 2.2lb. and have no problems with them only improvement. I wish I could read the ingredients but I can't but from what I have seen in the product it works.

What does that have to do with the OP's question?

"Super Immune Substance Added" is simply marketing BS.
Unless of course you are privy to Hai Feng's proprietary information & can offer a detailed explanation as to exactly what this "super" substance is.

The fact that you can't even read the ingredient list should be your first clue that you have no idea as to what's in your food. A pet food label such as that wouldn't even pass the inspection of the vast majority of US state regulatory bodies. Whoa ....

Canadian Club 10 year reserve whiskey played part in my last reference/post don't hold me accountable for the whole thing. I still think the food is good for $41 I have spent just as much on chingmix and grand sumo with similar/lesser results. I still prefer 5lb.s of NLS for $50ish.

LMAO, a few more shots & you will probably be able to read that label. :D

Vit-C, E, and "good bacteria" probably lactobacillus or acidophilus are proven to help immune system to fight infection and maintain good health.
Cheap fish food contain very little Vit-C as it's oxidized easily and required special process during packaging. " and the "good bacteria " is very expensive.
