how do you get rid of hair algae i am new to planted tanks and i dont like the look of it and want to get rid of it.. please let me know

First off, you can expedidte the procces by getting a bunch of otosinchaluses. Hair algae (make sure it really is hair algae) can be easily removed by twirrling a toothbrush in the mess.

That would be thread algae, not hair algae for that type of removal. It is spelled otocinclus, and they do not touch hair algae, except in extreme cases. It is bad to add a fish to do work that you should be doing. Hair algae is much tougher to get rid of.

Post a pic so I can verify that we are talking about the same type of algae.

i cleaned it all out of the tank with the gravel vac but but i really dont want it to grow back

Not hair algae, but rather thread algae. Manual removal is best. Watch both your phosphate and nitrate levels.

ok so iv been cleaning this stuff out about every 3 days my nitrates are 10-15 mg/l, phosphates are 0 and its still growing my lights are on timers and are on for 8 hours a day and i am only running half the light and it seems to have slowed down the growth of the algae but it has also affected the growth of my plants what can i do to stop this stuff???
