My reef tank is being overrun with a greenish hair algae. It is all over my powerheads, heater, and on the glass...the water quality is still excellent, but the algae is terrible to see, and it is gumming up the intake on the powerhead for my skimmer. Any suggestions?

you can remove by hand or w/ turbo snails scarlet hermits, emerald crabs, or some tangs or kinds of blenny/goby.

dont bicolors also eat algea?

You can use a a Sea Hare they work great. Just find it a home when he cleans your tank they eat it pretty quick!

What are you phosphate levels at? Also, what is the length of your photo period?

No question that the phosphates must be high. That's what caused my hair algae problem.

Phospate + Light = An Ass load of Algae (P.S. "Ass load" is a technical term:grinno: )

My situation was like yours TBone, my water quality was excellent but I had algae everywhere. I bought a Siganus doliatus and he cleared it up in a matter of days, and you'll have a good looking fish too...especially under the actinics.

Forgot to mention that if you were to go with any type of Rabbitfish, make sure you really keep him STUFFED. That way he won't nip at any corals. Mine never shows interest in anything else, as long as I keep a lot of vegetable matter in there.

Thanks alot guys...phosphate levels are high. Im workin on that and I cut back on the photo period for the time being. Also going to get some sort of livestock to help control it tomorrow.
