Any got any good tips on getting rid of hair algae and algae in general

less light, additive and filer media to remove phosphate are all the go too

but does anyone have any other methods they have used that work ?

I use a toothbrush to scrub the algae or use it like a fork with spaghetti lol. I’ve had mollies eat hair algae, in my opinion, they are the best hair algae eaters.

I happen to like hair algae, and feel can be an important component of a healthy aquarium helping to control nitrate.
I intentionally encourage it in sumps, a s nitrate control and harvest clumps it as food for fish.

Or grow it on rocks or logs to be placed in tanks as food.

of course some types (such as cyanobacteria are deleterious, and I've found using probiotics to compete with it for nutrients has work for me against that kind.

only places i dont actively encourage algae growth are on the viewing panes and higher plant forms. actively growing hair algae eats up a good amount of nitrogenous waste.20201005_135939.jpg
