What are the best controllers of hair algea. I have hear that emerald crabs do the job pretty good, but are they the best?

Lawnmower blennies kill. I have one in my 55, and I have a hair algea problem in my ten gallon and I chucked some algea infested decorations in my 55 and over night they were spotless. Lawnmower blennies are pretty easy to find and are fairly cheap.

water changes and monitoring your phosphates help also. phosphates should be almost zero and hermit crabs do a nice job too.

Agree - crabs and blennies do great - tangs too. One of my yellows goes nuts for it, which sux because I hardly ever have it in my tanks, lol. But yes keeping water quality up is always the first and best way to combat algae, lol.

Good resource for anyone with FW algae problems though. :)

I read up on hair algae due to the fact I collect my driftwood from the beach next to my home after storms. Siamese flying fox are inexpensive and work well as a team. (Found mine at Shark Aquarium- Just an fyi.)

Cool. How they workin for you?

They work well. I have 3 in my african cichlid tank and they do a great job for Hair algae but not wonderful on other forms. Also had 3 in my poly/mixed tank but I have only had 2 for some time now. I assume one got too close to a hungry Sen or Del.
