i got this dwarf hairgrass from the lfs and i was wondering how fast and how big it would grow and would i have to trim that plant

If its really dwarf hairgrass it stays short only like 3 inches I think and it needs to be trimmed periodically. It can spread to a full carpet covering your substrate if all its needs are met.

it takes a long time to spread. Mine grows pretty quickly, I havn't trimed it in about 2 weeks and it's about 2 inches tall.

they grow slow unless you have fertilizer in the gravel and co2..but more importantly fertilizer

Good substrate, (appropriate substrate might be a better word), co2, and high lighting are generally recommended.

Not tolerant of algae, or too coarse of substrate. Will spread slowly if at all under the wrong circumstances.
