I have to downsize my cichlid tanks for the time being and I have a difficult call to make. I have a hait and a beani and I have to decide which one to keep. Would love your opinions on which one to keep!

Can't really go wrong in choosing one over the other. If you choose Beani, less electric bill since it does not require water in the 80's. I keep my haitiensis pair in an 82 degree water temp so a heater is a must.

I've always based fish decisions on a few variables and then just roll with it. The variables I use are: which fish would be easier to find again in the event you later change your mind and expand your fish room, which fish set up you would want to sell because of the size of the fish, which fish would get along better with the other fish you are keeping, and ultimately which fish means more to you. No matter how well we treat our fish everyone has a favorite that they enjoy just a little bit more than the others for various reasons. From someone who has traded and sold many fish and later regretted it I feel your pain. Good luck with your decision, and take lots of pics of the fish you decide to sell I def regret not doing that.

i agree i usually judge by how hard it will be to get the fish again. Beani are no longer rare and Haits are quite common if you know where to look. So then it comes down to which one means more, the beani was a sought after fish for me for years, then I came back to cichlids and they were suddenly available. Haits have always been easy for me to get, but my Hait is a very cool and engaging fish. I was hoping some people on the board would ave really strong feelings towards one of the species and that would help sway me. haha
The beani on the left looks greener compared to the beani on the right. That being said, if they are the same then my 2 cents is this. If it is the white beani with the red eyes, I say keep that one. If its the green beanii, then I say keep the Nasty. Just my opinion, but the white beanii is awesome.
