Vid of my Nandopsis Haitiensis. Every time I do a water change, he wants his head scratched. If I don't, he splashes water EVERYWHERE.

nice! but how big is that tank? looks to small?

Not sure how you think so. I don't show the entire tank in the video. He's not nearly as long as the tank is wide.

Ammonia/Ni/Na are 0 all the time, excellent water quality, and I am RELIGIOUS about water changes. No deformities, and he's 100% healthy and happy.

Let's please not turn this into a tank size debate thread like most threads with big fish seem to. We all have our views on appropriate tank size, and I'm not interested in discussing it. Too many people on here that think you need 1000 gallons for a beta.

Edit: To answer your question, it's a 125 standard (6'x18"x18") and he has it all to himself. He's 14-15" TL and fully grown.

1000g for a beta is only good for a grow out, will need to re-home at sea world when reaching adult sizes jk

I wish the video worked on the computer I am at, I havent heard of this behavior before. I have only heard of fish scratching when they have an external illness or if conditions are bad. If even your nitrates are 0 then clearly your parameters are excellent so I doubt thats the case.

Maybe not "scratch." More like he likes his head rubbed/petted. I've seen flowerhorns and midas that did this before. SA/CA cichlids just have awesome personalities. He also comes up and bumps the tank lids when I walk by trying to get my attention.

This is just awesome! I am hoping to grow out some Haitiensis this summer. Good to see another Indiana hobbyist as well. Great job with this guy. He looks flawless

Hehe. Lovely.

Thanks man. He's a stunner for sure. Not mean or a tank banger at all, which is surprising. But he does love to throw sand and water out of his tank and attack his heater/fake plants.

And he's the only big one that I know of in Indiana. I know Master B has (or had???) a nice big pair in NE Kentucky. If you're looking for fry, I think his were breeding and I think he may have had some contacts that bred them as well. Also, I think gage was selling some nice looking fry at one point.

The Hait's are definitely worth the trouble. Very dificult to keep alive, but SO worth it.

They're definitely my favorite of all of the cichlids. Their fins are just spectacular.
