looks like breeding colors to me, has he paired with anyone or is he fighting for a territory against another tankmate?

I have 3 rt babies in with a couple breeding pairs of cons. So maybe it is aggression over territory. They have all been together for a few months and I'm just now seeing the color change. Can they pair off and breed at 2"?

i think the carpintis i had started pairing off at about 2.5in but they didnt start breeding yet, some cichlids can pair off quite young just not actually breed till they get a little larger, 2" does seem a bit small but its not impossible that they may have formed a pair already

Thats just a normal Carpintis, not a red texas and the half faded look is just mood, my 6" Carpintis is always changing colours.

some red texas actually dont show much or any red, its the super red texas you are thinking of so it very well could be a red texas and also they take time to fade with age just like a FH would, even the super reds start out looking like a regular carpinte

that fish is so cute lol

It looks like a female hybrid carpinte in horny colors
