yea, but why? he wasnt like that till now, i've had him for months since he was a wee little guy. suddenly he is weird. because he isnt responding to food like he used to i wonder if its either a bacterial thing or has he gone blind and cant see the environment to mimic it? who knows. super weird to me though

Chimeras are exhibiting 2 sets of genes that spliced during egg development... its possible to even have 2 sexes... maybe ur fish has just reached sexual maturity and thats the cause of the sudden "split"... im no expert on the subject, just offering a topic to research further for ya.

Ya thanks, I don't think that's it. I'm pretty sure it reached maturity a bit ago, it's at what I anticipate to be it's max size so it should have hit that already. Super weird.

I agree need more pictures but actually looks pretty wild. How is he acting?

update on this, the fish had a bacterial infection. on the dark side he had a big open sore. i treated with kanaplex and he has healed up a little bit. there is still a scar on his back/side but at least he is eating again. still some difference in the colouration from right to left but its a lot lighter and is only showing some of the time. really weird illness though. i've kept him strickly quarantined making sure not to transfer anything from his tank to any others. since getting sick he became ultra shy and completely panicking at time when i came near the tank. i had removed a large decoration that he loved so that could be part of it. i would catch him almost shaking his head some times like his equalibrium was off and or something. really messed up. definitely improved since the treatment, keeping an eye out just in case

so bad news with this guy. found him on the floor this morning. crispy as toast. never did figure out what was wrong with this guy. after the treatment he started eating again and his open sore healed up. his bilateral colour change stuck around though and his behavior was super weird. I wonder if he got spooked and gave himself some sort of brain damage bouncing off the glass or something. he was real shakey. when I would feed him he would run at it and sometimes he would miss and straight panic and start flailing about, into the sand, up to the top. before he was super precise in his movements, now he would miss going into the opening to his pvc home. not good at all. either way I'm going to sterilize everything with bleach to be safe.
